True History

When Canadians allow fundamental issues of public policy -- such as abortion, euthanasia, or whether possession of child pornography should be a crime -- to be decided by courts, rather than by Parliament, they are shrugging off the perhaps now irksome burden of self-government. At bottom, democracy is anti-authoritarian, not because it arrives at correct, or even principled, conclusions, but because it imposes on everyone the burden of thinking and deciding for oneself. How much easier to allow the nine philosopher-kings on the Supreme Court of Canada to think and decide for us.

- Ian Hunter

Welcome to the 'About Ken' Section.

Ken Epp was born, raised and educated in Saskatchewan. He has undergraduate degrees in Science (Mathematics & Physics) and Education. He moved to Alberta in 1961, taught High School Mathematics for four (4) years and then joined the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology staff as a Mathematics Instructor in 1966. He was on staff there in various positions until 1993.

Ken and his wife Betty have lived on an acreage east of Sherwood Park since 1975. They have three grown children, two of whom are married, and five grandchildren.

Ken has had a life-long involvement in volunteer organizations. He was involved in student government in high school and university and has been involved at leadership levels with professional organizations connected to his career. He was the founding President of the NAIT Academic Staff Association. Ken served as Chairman of the Board for a Christian children/youth camp for a number of years, and was Chairman of the Board of Governors of Strathcona Christian Academy in Sherwood Park during its first seven years.

Ken never belonged to a political party before joining the Reform Party in 1988. He joined because he was impressed by the principles of the Party and the integrity of its leadership. Now he is dedicated to doing everything possible to bring to this country a leadership which believes in sound fiscal management, a balanced full-time democracy, accountability of politicians to the electorate on an-going basis, the treatment of all Canadians as equals, and a justice system which puts the safety of law-abiding citizens at its highest priority.
